Job 17

In this plate Job and his wife are receiving their guests for a celebration.  The women are wearing their best dresses, their jewels and their hair eleganted arranged... Job has learned to receive, learned that he is not necessarily the giver, congratulating himself on his generosity.  Now he understands that from everyone we meet, we receive.

This is a joyous scene as Job and his wife sit under a great fig tree while behind them is a field of ripening corn.  Their world has come to life again. (From Golgonooza, page 14)

Here's the text that Blake gave to the engraving:

The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich; he bringeth low, and lifteth up (I Samuel 2: 7).

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God (Job 38: 41).

Every man also gave him a piece of money (Job 42:11).

Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever (Psalm 136:23).
