Plate 14 portrayed a numinous experience at which one may arrive in consciousness through intuition. Pilgrim had become convinced of his acceptance into the Kingdom through feeling the love and forgiveness in the image of the Crucified Christ. Such an experience enters the soul of man as a unity not as a group of parts. Notice that the aspects of consciousness which participate in such an experience are the intuition and the emotions.
Following the conversion experience of Pilgrim, there is related experience of affirmation and assimilation. Bunyan characterizes this, and Blake pictures this, as beholding the "three Shining ones." The inward experience of being transformed by a vision of the Eternal is confirmed in the outer world through the reasoning mind, and may be enacted as an initiation in the physical world. This completes the quaternary of psychic realities with reason and the body.
The outward signs of the inward transformation are signified by awareness of forgiveness taught it the Gospel, being reclothed in raiment suitable for the Kingdom and being sealed with one's true identity as a Child of God.
